Hamburg Restaurants Serve A World Of Food

It’s a good thing Hamburg is a fine walking city, otherwise my pants would have to be let out after all the eating at many of the Hamburg Restaurants. To do a “Top 10” list out of the thousands of restaurants found throughout the city is a daunting task, so I’m not even attempting to try it. I will, however, give you guidance to the best of the best of eating around Hamburg.

Se7en Ocean

For me, the most expensive restaurants aren’t necessarily the best restaurants, although you will find Michelin-starred restaurants throughout the city. Places like Se7en Ocean, a gourmet seafood restaurant with great views of the Alster in Hamburg-Altstadt is one such place. Not only is its fine cuisine worthy of the coveted Michelin Star, but it’s also part bar, lounge, and sushi place.

LeBuffet

Don’t be so surprised by all the seafood restaurants in Hamburg, it is a fishing city after all, right? And some of the best fish around is served at LeBuffet at the Alsterhaus. Who knew a shopping plaza could serve up delights of the sea, salads, and just about anything else you need for energy to keep on shopping.

La Mirabelle

Food isn’t just for fueling the body for long days of sightseeing, it can also be art. La Mirabelle, a lovely French place at Bundesstraße 15 in Eimsbüttel, knows just how to present scrumptious food almost too pretty to eat. The foie gras on another diner’s plate looked so good I was tempted to try the fatty goose liver myself. Maybe next time. ;-)

Irish Rover

When it’s just everyday food that you’re craving, then I’d say the Irish Rover is the way to go. Known as a “continental pub,” the folks at the Irish Rover know how to serve up burgers and beer with great prices. The address is Grossneumarkt 8 if you’re hungry.

Von der Motte

Pubs and bistros are found all over Hamburg, but the best bistro of them all is Von der Motte in Ottensen. Closed on Mondays, the rest of the week you’re able to grab a bite in a casual atmosphere, and they’ll even deliver late in the evenings. I love comfort food, and Von der Motte’s is second only to mom’s cooking.

La Monella

What’s great about the variety of restaurants in Hamburg is you’ll never go hungry — including vegetarians. La Monella is creative enough to make Italian vegetarian so delicious you’ll never miss the meatballs. The atmosphere is charming, the service impeccable, and it won’t break the bank on price.

Balutschi

While not exclusively vegetarian, Balutschi’s Pakistani cuisine restaurant is affordable and colorful. Located at Grindelalle 31, the flavors of this Middle Eastern restaurant will keep you coming back for spicier and spicier dishes.

TEX-MEX

Speaking of spicy, TEX-MEX can fall into that category — so it makes on this page. And, yes, you can come all the way to Hamburg, Germany for yummy Mexican dishes — more specifically, Dos Amigos’ Mexican dishes. Situated in Eimsbüttel at Sillemstraße 74, the value for your Euro here will have you ordering more than just tacos.

Back-Lava

I don’t know about you, but I love something sweet after a savory dish — and if bakeries can also fall under the umbrella of Hamburg restaurants; Back-Lava is one such place. What’s great about Back-Lava is it blends the sweets of two cultures, German and Turkish — and great coffee. Don’t worry that the menu is in German, they’ll help you find just the right sweet delight to make you happy.

Kartoffel Keller

As for me being happy, it’s the Kartoffel Keller that does it. Located in the Hamburg-Altstadt at Deichstrasse 21, it is more than just potato after potato dish. It’s got vegetarian dishes, thick steaks, the sweetest desserts, and servers dressed in burlap to keep the theme going at this German cuisine restaurant. Did you really think you weren’t going to find a German restaurant in Germany — oh, there are only hundreds of them in Hamburg.

The above is but a small appetizer of what you’ll find to eat in Hamburg. When you’ve got a calling for Cajun & Creole, a passion for Persian, a love of Lithuanian, and freak over Fusion — you’ll find it right here in Hamburg. Ohh, I think I’m stuffed now.
